What Your Entry Door Colour says about Your Home

Your front door makes or breaks the first impression of your home as it’s the first thing seen when visiting your home. It is a reflection of your tastes and the life you live. Being an element that most people don’t change very often, choosing the right colour of your entry door is an important decision.

When choosing a front door colour, keep in mind that different colours make different statements and evoke various emotions. Choose one that aligns with your views and your design style.

White Front Doors

You can never go wrong with white. White isn’t always considered a colour because it is technically a base.

This means that it is the basis for all other colours; all other colours are created from white. This also means that white goes with everything, any colour looks great beside it. A white entry door allows for more creativity when choosing accents. Things like gold handle or colourful mats stand out and draw more of the attention. For a subtle difference, off-whites are the perfect solution as they are still similar but easier on the eyes. Colours like our Sandy White allow for all the same benefits while not being as vibrant.

Black Front Doors

Black has all the same benefits as white. It is considered neutral and doesn’t clash with any other colours.

Being dark, black allows bright colours to stand out immensely. On the other hand, being so dark can hide its details and give off a sense of privacy. Some black front doors utilize an off-black shade, they are not as dark as a pure black entry door. A good example is our Charcoal entry door colour. This allows for the same privacy without losing as many details and design elements. Its potential is through the roof and it is quickly gaining attraction in the new construction housing market.

Neutral Front Doors

Neutral colours are often considered tones of yellow or orange, alternatively known as ‘beige’ or ‘nude’.

Similar to white and black shades, they are a good match for any other colour in most cases, but are seen as more of a background and not a focal point. Because of this, the feeling they evoke can be spun in the direction of the accent colour when paired. Colours like our Sandalwood, and Sandstone have orange and grey undertone which make their décor potential endless.

Brown Front Doors

Browns offers a more natural and rugged look. It is the color that is most similar to wood.

The range from light to dark including our Dark Bronze resembles that of natural wood. A look straight from nature provides more a traditional aesthetic and can give off a feeling of nostalgia. It can also be a great contrast in newer homes and connects to the home’s roots.

Red Front Doors

Red is seen as an attractive and fun colour. It draws the eye in its direction and is a clear focal point.

Whether it is vibrant like our Brick Red or not as loud like our Classic Burgundy, reds are sure to attract a crowd and make your entryway stand out amongst the neighbours.

Green Front Doors

In a similar way to the Browns, Greens bring out natural elements but in a softer light.

Our Fiddlehead Green, while quite dark itself, gives off a tranquil energy. The low saturation and high vibrancy contrast of a dark cool colours adds a layer of mystery without being off-putting. On the opposite end, our Peale Green sets the same tranquility levels but can be seen as more inviting and open, as opposed to dark and mysterious.

Grey Front Doors

Grey is the next trending colour aside from black. This colour is the mix between black and white

Modern homes are popping up all over the place with grey accents and features. Grey is also considered a neutral, similar to the ‘neutrals’ talked about above, they can be used as a background or focal point but also pair well with many other colours. Shades such as Normandy, Stone Harbour and Barren Plain add a sleek look perfect for a new or older home.

Blue Front Doors

Blue offers a calming energy that many people want in their homes.

Calm energy leads to a peaceful experience within, which homeowners tend to seek as their homes are their sanctuary from the outside world. A darker shade such as our Deep Royal Blue sets a positive tone for home and radiates it to anyone who enters.

Consider other elements of your front door when selecting a paint colour such as sidelites and trim. The colour will have an aesthetic effect on the colour of the trim or the detailing of the sidelites. On the opposite end of the spectrum, if your goal is to stand out then go bold by throwing out the rule book and going for an unconventional look.

Regardless of your goal, we have a colour that’s sure to make your home stand out, blend in and say whatever you want it to say. Let our experts here at Window City help your home stand out.
