What is the Canada Greener Homes Grant?

The Greener Homes Grant has opened thanks to Natural Resources Canada in an effort to help make Canada a little greener with energy efficient windows and doors. If you are looking to make energy efficiency upgrades on your residence’s vinyl windows and doors with Window City products, you could qualify for this grant of up to $5,000.

In order for these upgrades to be qualified as energy efficiency products, they must be Energy-star certified and must pass an EnerGuide evaluation in advance to installation. There are 2 pathways to calculate fenestration thermal performance in Canada – the U-factor pathway and the Energy Rating Pathway. U-factor is a physical measurement of the amount of heat energy transferred across a unit area of wall over a given timespan per degree of indoor-outdoor temperature difference. Energy Rating (ER) is a dimensionless rating number arrived at by calculation and computer modeling that combines and demonstrates the balance among solar heat gain, U-factor and air infiltration. Luckily, majority of Window City vinyl windows and doors do fall under this umbrella of terms and conditions in energy efficiency. Once the retrofit process is complete, this program will reimburse the homeowner for the cost of the Energuide evaluation in addition to the possible $5,000 for retrofits.
